Smiley Piercing

Smiley piercing

The so-called smiley is a lip frenulum piercing that is pierced through the frenulum. The frenulum extends between the upper lip and the gums in the oral cavity. The types of jewelry recommended for this piercing are horseshoes and rings, which can be made of titanium, surgical steel or silicone. The purpose of the labial frenulum piercing is that it can be shown when laughing. The English term smiley piercing also refers to this. With this piercing, it is very important to comply with oral hygiene regulations. To ensure that it heals as quickly as possible and without complications, it is essential to follow the treatment instructions.

Care and healing:

  • The total healing time after insertion of the piercing is approx. 3-5 weeks.

  • During the first 3-4 days, there may be slight pain and swelling. The jewelry must not be removed during the healing phase.

  • No chewing gum; avoid eating foods that require heavy chewing.

  • Rinse the mouth after every meal and several times a day; after smoking, this should be done with an antiseptic and alcohol-free product (e.g. Listerine). Smoking and alcohol consumption prolong the healing time.

  • Dairy products should not be consumed for one week.
